Walnut Church of Christ hosts a devotional and the meal, part of its ministry for the homeless, from noon until the food is gone every third Sunday at the parking lot, said Brian Tapscott, Luke's father and deacon of the ministry. The 12-year-old ministry, which was spearheaded by David and Kimberly Jackson, serves food to about 100 people and also provides clothing. The food and clothing are donated by church members. Walnut's ministries include Tigers Cub Closet, which supplies hygiene and other items to children in school; and Beds for Kids, which provides a new bed for children going into foster care.
