EDITORIAL/Cans and Koozies: Both left and right get worked up about the meaningless

It's hard to imagine anything more "snowflakey," if there is such a word, than getting one's knickers in a pinch over imagery on a beer can.

And light beer at that.

Well, except maybe getting all worked up when some public officials make a joke about it.

It seems, for whatever reason, many on the right are upset that Bud Light issued a can featuring a transexual woman amous through TikTok videos.

That spurred countless angry social media posts and calls for boycotts -- apparently quite successful -- of Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch's other products.

Really? Aren't there other, actually important things to focus on?

Well, now it's the left's turn to be outraged.

In response to the Bud Light flap, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders along with three fellow female Republican governors came up with a way for beer drinkers to hide the offending can and still enjoy the brew.

They are offering "Real Woman" koozies -- you know, those sleeves that slip over a can -- featuring their images. They are for sale on her campaign website.

Well, that set off another firestorm as many on the left blasted Sanders for the move.

Let's get real. Sanders is no supporter of transgender rights, but the koozies were an attempt to mix a bit of fun with the message.

Nothing to get worked up about. Again, aren't there more important things to worry about?

Apparently not. At the end of the day, the can and the koozies will fade away and leave no scar. No impact on people's real lives. But outrage over the essentially meaningless is one thing the left and right seem to have in common.
