DeKalb man shot, killed during argument at his home


DeKALB, Texas -- A Bowie County man is dead after being shot multiple times Saturday at his house.

Derrelexis Dewayne Betts, 37, of DeKalb was arrested at the scene on a charge of murder in the killing of Demond Monta Easter, 44, of DeKalb. Betts remains jailed at Bi-State Detention Center; bond has not been set.

The shooting occurred at Easter's home on County Road 4252, west of downtown DeKalb, according to Bowie County Sheriff's Office. Easter was taken by LifeNet ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas, where he later died.

"Investigation revealed that the victim was at his home when he was shot during the course of an argument," according to the Sheriff's Office.

Easter's body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy.

No other information was available late Saturday.
