TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Five Arkansas High School students were nominated and subsequently accepted to a prestigious civic education state camp.

The two camps, respectively named Arkansas Boys State and Arkansas Girls State, have been in operation since the early 1940s and provide education to 11th graders about how to be involved in their communities and government.

The boys' camp has provided guidance to historical figures such as President Bill Clinton, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Tom Cotton.

Each camper is assigned a place in a mock political party, city and county and will learn about the duties and responsibilities of citizens and public officials.

Arkansas Boys State participants from AHS include Justin Canida, Bryce Jones, Garrett Pendergraft and Mikel Watson.

The Arkansas Girls State participant from AHS is Tiniyah Evans.
