Prep Baseball: Waid's 2 HRs, Wardlaw grand slam send Arkansas High past Ashdown

ASHDOWN, Ark. — Ty Waid added two more home runs to his season total and Ryan Wardlaw jacked a grand slam to help lead Arkansas High past Ashdown, 9-8, on Monday night on the road.

The Razorbacks traded runs back and forth with Ashdown for the first two innings, with the Panthers having a 6-3 favor going into the third, where neither team scored.

Wardlaw connected on his four-bagger in the fourth inning to help Arkansas High take the lead, but would be short lived when the Panthers re-took the advantage with four runs in bottom of the frame.

Arkansas High tied up the contest at 8 in the fifth and rallied for the winning run in top of the eighth.

Waid, a University of Arkansas commit, drew two walks and scored three runs.  Lee Smith added two hits, while teammates Luke Paxton, Wardlaw, Scott Trumble and Nate Wall each added one.

Arkansas High's Jackson Shipp got the win on the mound. He struck out four and walked none while allowing three hits in 2 2/3 innings. Jonathan Garcia fanned a game-high six batters.

Leland Garrett and Derek Hilton led Ashdown with two hits and Caleb Blankenship finished with two RBIs.
