Prep Baseball: Texas High opens district with loss to Hallsville

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texas High opened District 15-5A baseball action against Hallsville and the Tigers came out on the short end of a 9-2 decision on a cool and windy Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The Tigers slip to 7-4 overall while the Bobcats climb to 9-5-1.

"It was a disappointing loss," said Texas High coach John McClure. "I don't think we competed as well as we have all year."

Hallsville took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame, but Texas High responded in its half of the inning.

Brenden Allred, who was 3-for-4 in the game, singled and later scored on Kameron Wrightner's groundout to second, tying the game at 1-1.

Jacob Yowell then homered over the left-field wall, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

The Bobcats took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning. Hallsville sealed the victory with three insurance runs in the seventh inning.

Worth McMillen took the loss for Texas High. He allowed six runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out three and walked five.

Hallsville outhit the Tigers 9-6. Sawyer Dunagan, Ethan Miller and winning pitcher Blake Cox all managed multiple hits for the Bobcats.

Texas High returns to district action Friday, traveling to Longview to take on the Lobos at 7 p.m.
