Queen City Hileman Relays set today

QUEEN CITY, Texas -- Queen City track coach Tommy Kimble knows you can't beat Mother Nature, so he's trying to accommodate her.

The Bulldogs' annual J.K. Hileman Relays have been moved to today instead of Thursday because of the high possibility of rain on Thursday.

"Last time I look there was about a 100 percent chance of rain on Thursday, so we decided to hold our track meet a day earlier," Kimble said. "We believe this is the best way we can still hold it and not have it interfere with baseball and softball games on Friday."

Today's field events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. today, and the running finals starting with the 3,200 meters at 4:30 p.m.

"There won't be any running prelims. Everything will be finals," Kimble said.

Teams entered include: Bloomburg, DeKalb, James Bowie, Maud, Paul Pewitt, Prairiland and host Queen City.

Rain, ironically, forced the cancellation of last year's Hileman Relays.

"I think we were lining up to run the 200 meters when the bottom fell out and washed the rest of the meet out," Kimble said.

The Bulldogs won all three divisions of the Hileman event two years ago.

"We won the varsity boys and girls and the JV boys," Kimble said.
