Prep Baseball: Arkansas High rolls past Prescott

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- It was a fun, quick evening for Arkansas High and the fans on a rare Wednesday night at home in a non-conference tilt, as they handled Prescott with ease by way of the mercy-rule in five innings, 15-3.

Arkansas High (6-1) posted multiple runs in all four innings, highlighted by a seven-run onslaught in the third inning to bust the game open.

Prescott (2-5) kept things close after trailing just 5-3 through the first 2 1/2 innings. Pierce Yates' RBI groundout in the first inning off Arkansas High starter Nate Wall scored Talan Smith, who led off the game with a double.

Spencer Hubbard added a two-run double later in the third inning to round out the scoring for the Curley Wolves. Starting pitcher Carston Poole added a single, and Avery Hubbard delivered two of his own singles for Prescott.

Poole picked up the loss, while Wall was credited with the win for the Razorbacks.

Trey White and Landry East followed Wall on the hill, both throwing in relief efforts. White went 2 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. East gave up a hit while striking out two in his lone inning of work.

Ryan Wardlaw opened the scoring for the Razorbacks with a 2-run single in the home-half of the first inning, followed by an RBI single from Wall. Wardlaw lead the Arkansas High offense with three singles and five RBIs on the night.

The Razorbacks then sent 11 batters to the plate in the third inning, as the route ensued. A lead-off walk and stolen base by Wall was followed up by an RBI single from White.

White had two singles for the game. Luke Paxton then smacked a triple that scored White and Cash Brookes, who reached on an error.

Lee Smith later singled home Ty Waid, who reached on a Prescott error. Waid had two singles, adding an RBI in the fourth frame.

Smith totaled two singles and two RBIs for the Hogs. Jackson Shipp and Ethan Walker each added singles to complete the hitting attack for Arkansas High.

The Razorbacks will continue their play Friday as they travel to Genoa Central.
