TEXARKANA, Texas -- A classical ballet touring company is bringing "Cinderella" to town.
World Ballet Series will stage the ballet March 31 at the Sullivan Performing Arts Center.
Forty professional dancers will retell the fairy tale with a "combination of humor and breathtaking classical ballet movements," according to co-producer Sasha Gorskaya.
"Expect to be amazed, entertained and inspired! Expect to laugh often and be in awe," Gorskaya said, adding that the ballet is perfect for first-timers.
"The story is known and loved by everyone. It is entertaining and light, yet richly endowed with classical movements," she said. "We made it our mission to make ballet more accessible and definitely not boring."
Choreographer Marina Kesler said the idea was to evoke a cinematic feeling in the viewer "where every gesture and scene is made clear."
WBS is the largest classical ballet touring company in the U.S., presenting ballet productions in over 130 venues across the country per year.
(World Ballet Series' "Cinderella" is scheduled 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Sullivan Performing Arts Center, 3941 Summerhill Road. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit worldballetseries.com.)
