NEW BOSTON, Texas -- A Grandbury, Arkansas, man charged with causing a fatal vehicle accident on State Line Avenue in 2022 has pleaded guilty.

Christopher Telles, 43, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to intoxication manslaughter and 10 years for intoxication assault, according to Bowie County court records.

Telles was driving a 2015 Ram 2500 north near the 2000 block of State Line Avenue on Sept. 2, 2022, when he crossed into the southbound lanes, according to a police report. He struck a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by Marolin Gardner, 63.

Gardner died from her injuries at the scene. A 7-year-old boy who was a passenger in her SUV was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center with severe but non-life-threatening injuries.

Telles was arrested the night of the accident and taken to Bi-State Detention Center, where he had remained on $1.25 million bail.

Telles' speech was slurred speech and he admitted to drinking a few beers, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Telles was represented by attorney John Pickett.
