Local Roundup: A&M-Texarkana tennis programs winners; pair of Texarkana athletes offered

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texas A&M University-Texarkana made sure to send senior Fernando Martinez off the right way, sweeping Howard Payne University at the Texas High Indoor Facility on Senior Day.

The Eagles (10-6) easily took five singles matches and two doubles for a 7-0 win over the visiting school.

Martinez was the lone senior on this year's program.

Alex Oviedo won 6-0, 6-0

Mauricio Trevino won 6-0, 6-2

Andrew Otzenberger 6-0, 6-3

Fernando Martinez won 6-0, 6-2

Ladies tennis team continues to win

TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Texas A&M University-Texarkana women earned their fourth win in five matches Thursday with a sweep of Howard Payne at the Texas High Indoor Facility.

The Eagles (8-10) swept all four singles matches then picked up a fifth point with the majority of doubles wins.

Lydia Oviedo won 6-2, 6-0

Andrea Barcenas won 6-0, 6-1

Andrea Castillo won 6-0, 6-0

Jaelee Young won 6-1, 6-3

Doubles

Oviedo/Barcenas won 6-1

Castillo/Kenzie Feist won 6-0

Jackson, Ball receive offers

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Pleasant Grove's Lance Jackson and Texas High's Tradarian Ball received more Power 5 offers this week to attach to their already stacked resumes.

Jackson, who recently made a visit to the University of Arkansas, received an offer from Notre Dame.

The Hawk lineman already owns offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, among others.

Ball, a standout running back for the Tigers, picked up his seventh offer with California. He adds Cal to the list that already has Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech, Lousiana Tech and UTSA.
