EDITORIAL | The Right Thing: Local heroes get involved, help rescue young teen

"If you see something, say something."

It's a slogan that's part of a national campaign encouraging Americans to report suspicious activity.

Here in Texarkana, some employees at the New Boston Road Whataburger did just that. And helped rescue a 13-year-old girl.

On Tuesday, the Texarkana Texas Police Department got a call from that Whataburger. Workers had noticed a young girl and a much older man eating together.

That's not particularly unusual. But something seemed off to the workers. They got the idea something wasn't right.

Most folks would probably shrug off their suspicions. Maybe just think they were overreacting. Maybe just prefer to not get involved.

But not these Whataburger employees. They did the right thing. They called the police.

Officers responded. The young girl told police the man had offered her money for sexual activity. And that he had touched her inappropriately during an earlier encounter.

They arrested the 79-year-old man on charges of indecency with a child and solicitation of prostitution.

The workers at the New Boston Road Whataburger saw something that didn't seem right. So they said something -- to the proper authorities.

They did the right thing. Something many others just wouldn't have done. They are heroes. We salute them.
