Police look for gunman who shot child at party in Texarkana, Arkansas


TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A child is recovering after being shot while attending a social gathering Sunday evening.

Texarkana Arkansas Police Department were dispatched about 7:40 p.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call of shots fired near Pinehurst and Grove streets. Soon after, another caller phoned 911 to report a vehicle crash at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Hazel Street.

When police arrived at Pinehurst and Grove, they learned that someone had fired numerous rounds from a gun and struck the child, age unknown. A person at the scene attempted to transport the child by personal vehicle to a local hospital.

"While driving to the hospital, the vehicle carrying the child was involved in a crash at MLK and Hazel. The child was then transport(ed) to the hospital from this location," TAPD said in a post on Facebook.

Police continue to search for the gunman or gunmen.

No other information was available late Sunday.
