Prep Track and Field: Atlanta boys, girls win Runnin’ Rabbs Relays

ATLANTA, Texas -- It may have been a chilly day in Northeast Texas on Saturday, but that wasn't going to stop host Atlanta from blazing through events at its annual Runnin' Rabbs Relays.

Both Atlanta boys and girls finished atop the leaderboards in this weekend's track-and-field competition, with the boys posting 137 points and coming ahead of Marshall (112) and Pleasant Grove (82).

The Lady Rabbs were also hard to catch in the 12-team field, coming in first with 124 points, followed by Nacogdoches (84) and Gilmer (77).

BOYS

Atlanta's boys had 14 top-3 placements in 22 total events, including five first-place finishes.

Lindale's Brett Maya took first place in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 10.77. Liberty-Eylau's Jordan Reed finished second, with a time of 10.92, followed by Atlanta's Markeylin Batton at 11.09.

Maya also enjoyed a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash finals (21.86), with Pleasant Grove's Xzavion Johnson placing second (22.31) and Marshall's John Thomas coming in third (22.51). Liberty-Eylau's Cayden Cooper and Dequane Prevo took fourth and fifth, respectively.

Lindale's Colter Maya won the 400-meter dash finals, with a time of 48.83, escaping the pursuit of Spencer Taylor of Marshall, who came right behind Maya's time at 48.88.

Pine Tree's Malachi Gray and Isaiah Martinez took the top two spots in the 1600-meter run finals, respectively, as Tyler Grace Community's Grayson Gaddis came in third. Atlanta's Chris Swanson placed fifth with a time of 4:56.71.

Matthew Morin helped Atlanta capture the 3200-meter run finals crown, finishing the event in 10:28.34. Pine Tree's Martinez and Trey Scroggins followed.

Pattonville Prairiland's Hunter Vaughn (15.14), Marshall's Byrd Robinson (15.20) and Hallsville's Anthony Sims (15.60) took top three in the 110-meter hurdles finals. Atlanta's Stacy Darty and Pleasant Grove's Keighston King were right behind the pack.

In the 300-meter hurdles finals, Marshall's Keshon Foster won, with a time of 38.99. Pattonville Prairiland's Hunter Vaughn placed second (40.78) and Atlanta's Darty finished third (40.91).

Marshall won the 4x100-meter relays finals in 42.76, with Atlanta coming in second at 43.01 and Liberty-Eylau close behind at 43.27. Pleasant Grove was right in the mix, with a time of 44.31.

Atlanta's 4x200-meter relays finals team (1:30.15) took down Marshall (1:30.78) and Hallsville (1:31.35).

Marshall rebounded in the 4x400-meter relays finals, finishing in 3:27.23. Atlanta placed second, with a time of 3:36.59, followed by Pleasant Grove at 3:39.91.

Darty's long jump of 19-07.00 ensured Atlanta's top spot in the event ahead of Marshall's Keshon Foster's 19-05.00 and Pattonville Prairiland's Grant Jordan's jump of 19-04.00.

Atlanta's Darty also left no questions in the triple jump finals, taking first at 42-10.00. Marshall's Foster took second with 41-08.00 and Pleasant Grove's Kyron Smith was third with 40-05.00.

Paul Pewitt was well-represented in the pole vault finals as Isaac Hodges (12-06.00) and Boone Hodges (12-00.00) took the top two spots with Blake Clark rounding out the top three from DeKalb.

Lucas Cano of Gilmer won the discus finals with a 165-06.00 result. Hallsville's Andy Tunstall and Sabine Pass' Sam Black finished second and third, respectively.

Pleasant Grove's Caleb Hackleman claimed the shot put finals corwn with 45-07.00, followed by Sabine Pass' Black (42-11.00) and Atlanta's Caden Walker (42-10.00).


GIRLS

Liberty-Eylau's Nevaeh Hill won the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.37, followed by Marshall's Asia Smith (12.72) and Longview's Aniah Stansell (12.75).

DaNaucia Johnson of Longview won the 200-meter dash finals at 25.28. Marshall's Shannon Mills came in second (25.48) and Longview's Rayvin Stansell finished third (25.81).

Pleasant Grove's Reese Gibbs took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.38, behind Longview's Johnson (0:58.00) and Gilmer's Michelle Chavez (1:04.41).

Gibbs, who had the third most overall points by an athlete, helped Pleasant Grove take the 800-meter run finals, where she finished with a time of 2:26.71, ahead of Atlanta's Kaylon Partain (2:27.63) and Lucy Ransom (2:30.76).

Tyler Grace Community took the top two spots in the 1600-meter run finals. Lauryn Dunn finished first at 4:48.67 and teammate Kayla Minick coming in second at 5:51.49. Atlanta's Ransom was right behind in third at 5:54.11.

Tyler Grace Community continued its winning ways in the 3200-meter run finals, with Dunn coming in first again at 12:24.50. Pleasant Grove's Emma Henard finished second at 13:15.25 followed by Gilmer's Makenna Sprouse at 13.23.08.

In the 100-meter hurdles finals, Gilmer's Gilbreath Faith (16.49), Daingerfield's Alexis Williams (16.83) and Nacogdoches' Nevaeh Sweat (17.31) paced the top three.

Sweat of Nacogdoches took the 300-meter hurdles finals with 48.05, ahead of Gilmer's Johnae Newsome (48.65) and Faith (50.39).

Atlanta cruised in the 4x100-meter relays finals, taking the top spot with a time of 49.24. Marshall came in second at 50.07 and Nacogodches right behind at 50.08.

Those three teams finished in the same order in the 4x200-meter relay finals, with Atlanta coming in first again at 1:46.24. Marshall finished second at 1:47.65 and Nacogdoches was close at 1:47.68.

Longview's 4x400-meter relays finals team left little doubt in its first-place finish of 4:08.27. Atlanta came in second at 4:19.15 and Liberty-Eylau third with 4:25.56.

Caitlynn Bailey of Atlanta won the high jump finals with 5-02.00 and Redwater's Mattie Campbell claimed second place with 5-00.00. Liberty-Eylau's Myah Hurd and Chloe Ward and Pleasant Grove's Gibbs all jumped 4-08.00.

Atlanta's JD Larry won the long jump finals at 15-06.00, followed by Pleasant Grove's Shalom Ezihe (15-04.00) and Gilmer's Tasyiah Lewis (15-02.00).

Ezihe etched a personal record of 34-02.00 for Pleasant grove in the triple jump finals for first place ahead of Nacogdoches' Ja'Aira Fletcher jump of 32-00.00.

Nacogdoche's Veronika Willardson won the pole vault finals with 8-06.00, followed by Brooklyn Gautier of Tyler Grace Community at 7-00.00.

Liberty-Eylau's Skylah Block took third in the discus finals with 93-07.00. Longview's Jada Owens took first with 97-04.00 and Nacogdoches' Ja'Mesha Skinner was second at 93-08.00.

In the shot put finals, Longview's Jada Owens took the top spot with 36-04.00, followed by Gilmer's Mallory Tate (31-09.00) and Jayna Rucker (31-02.00).
