Texarkana, Texas, police warn of bad synthetic marijuana that has resulted in two deaths

TEXARKANA, Texas --Police are warning citizens about a tainted batch of synthetic marijuana that has resulted in at least seven overdoses and two deaths in the last few days.

"Detectives are actively investigating this and trying to get it off the streets and see where it came from," said Sgt. Kim Weaver, a spokesperson for the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

Synthetic marijuana, also known as K2, is not really marijuana. It's made in a lab and is more potent than regular marijuana. It's effects include hallucinations, severe anxiety/paranoia and seizures.

It's already considered dangerous, according to police.

"We always strongly encourage everyone to steer completely clear of it , but that is especially important right now," Weaver said.

The Police Department said to call 911 if anyone has overdosed. The affected person will not be charged with possession of the drug, but the substance will be confiscated

"We want them to get help. They should not worry about being charged," Weaver said.

Anyone with information about the origin of the synthetic marijuana should call TTPD at 903-798-3116 or 903-798-3876. If it is after hours, call 911.
