Prep Baseball: Waid adds two more HRs in Arkansas High’s loss

CAMDEN, Ark. -- Arkansas High's bats were alive for most of the contest but a big five-run sixth inning sent Camden Fairview past the Razorbacks, 12-10, on Monday.

The sixth-ranked Razorbacks scored in each inning but one, and saw a huge performance from University of Arkansas signee Ty Waid, who finished the game with two home runs and five RBIs.

Camden Fairview matched Arkansas High run for run in the first two innings, with both teams scoring one in the first and adding five in the second inning.

Ryan Wardlaw got it started for the Hogs in the first inning when he flew out to center field to tag up leadoff hitter Luke Paxton, who drilled a triple past the right fielder.

The Cardinals answered back with a run of their own, before both teams blew it open in the second.

Scott Trumble recorded an RBI with a fielder's choice to lead off the scoring before Paxton connected on an RBI-double to score another.

Three pitches later, Waid, who leads the state in home runs, blasted a three-run homer over the center fielder's head to give the Hogs a 6-1 edge.

Camden, however, knotted the score in the bottom of the frame.

Arkansas High scored another run in the third and Waid clubbed another home run to center field again, scoring Jackson Shipp, who had reached base earlier on an error, to give the visitors a 9-6 edge.

Camden Fairview would end up scoring five runs in the sixth inning to retake the lead and secure the victory.

Waid and Paxton had two hits each to lead the Hogs.

Shipp got the start on the mound for the Razorbacks, where he struck out one and walked three and allowed six runs on five hits. Trey White, Scooter Wilder and Landry East all came in relief, with East taking the loss.

Arkansas High will host Hot Springs on Tuesday and will welcome Ashdown on Thursday before traveling to Hot Springs on Friday.
