SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas -- After the first day of District 15-4A play, Pleasant Grove's varsity tennis program are in the finals in every event.
"Day 1 was a gauntlet and getting the entire team through to Day 2 was a big accomplishment for us," Pleasant Grove coach Erik Pickett said. "We have PG players in the finals of every event and that is about as good of a day as we could have hoped for.
"Our Hawks battled their guts out in every match.
John Tomberlain and Chance Tutolo advanced to the boys singles finals, while Lilly Pace advanced tot he girls singles finals.
The teams of Andy Tye and Whit Miller and Zachary Bobo and Jackson Tomberlain advanced to the boys doubles finals. Autum Crouch and Lynleigh Henderson will play in the girls doubles finals.
Pleasant Grove's Rose Anderson and Jack Humphrey will compete in the mixed doubles finals.
"I am expremely proud of our efforts today, but our job is not done yet," Pickett said. "One more day to go to finish the job in district play."
Pleasant Grove's Day 2 action will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sulphur Springs.
