EDITORIAL/Final Justice: Osama bin Laden paid for his crimes 12 years ago today

We all remember the day of September 11, 2001 with a mixture of horror, sorrow and rage.

Horror that anyone could so so vicious, so lacking in humanity as to kill all those innocent people. To leave all those families shattered.

Sorrow for those who died and those left behind.

And rage -- pure justifiable rage -- at those who planned, directed and committed those acts of terror.

It"s been more than two decades since that day in September, when four U.S. jetliners were hijacked by terrorists who were part of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network.

More than two decades since two of the flights crashed into the Twin Towers of New York's World Trade Center. bringing down three buildings in the complex and killing more than 2,700 people in the buildings and on the planes.

More than two decades since a third plane crashed into the Pentagon, tearing a large hole in the side of America's military headquarters and and the last airliner, reportedly headed for either the U.S. Capitol or the White House, crashed near Shanksville, Penn., after passengers and crew heroically attempted to wrest control from the hijackers.

In all, some 2,996 people -- including 19 hijackers -- died in the attacks that day.

It took more than a decade, but 12 years ago today justice came for Osama bin Laden in the form of U.S. Navy SEALS.

Under the cover of darkness, U.S. helicopters ferried a crack team of U.S. Navy SEALS to the walled compound in Pakistan that served as bin Laden's last hideout.

In under 40 minutes it was all over. Bin Laden was dead.

Justice was served. An avowed enemy of the U.S. paid for his crimes against our people, our nation.

That's something our other enemies might want to keep in mind.
