TEXARKANA, Texas -- A new neighborhood of exclusively manufactured homes broke ground recently, kicking off the construction efforts of an 83-home subdivision near Randall and Comanche roads.

According to Clayton Homes company representative Crystal Huskey, the first phase of the neighborhood will have 49 lots.

Project manager Evan Niles said the company mainly selected Texarkana as a location for its new neighborhood settlement because it has two home centers.

"We were approached with the land deal in our real estate department. The local home center managers gave us the details on everything. Our development team is doing the design, the numbers work and everything," Niles said.

The project manager said the construction cost is more than usual across the board for all construction projects, but due to Clayton Homes' construction methods, the process is affordable.

Huskey said the houses will start in the mid-$200,000 range, since the homes are fabricated at a building facility.

"We're hoping the first few model homes are going to end up being done in September. However, the weather has been impacting us pretty hard out there," Niles said. "They haven't been able to do as much as we wanted to yet."

Niles said the first few homes should be ready by the end of the year.
