WASHINGTON, Ark. -- Tracing the history of Arkansas' monetary system is the focus of a new exhibit at Historic Washington State Park.

"In Their Wallet" opens today with a reception and a presentation by numismatic expert Ed Nelson. The exhibit aims to tell the story of early Arkansans as they endeavored to build an economy with a sound money system.

"The exhibit features issues unique to the 19th century and addresses questions that remain in the present-day about the proper form and role of money in society," the state park said in a news release.

The presentation will start at 1:30 p.m. at the 1874 Visitor Information Center, 100 SW Morrison St.
