TEXARKANA, Texas -- A Texarkana man has been arrested after allegedly shooting his girlfriend in the shoulder early Sunday morning at an apartment complex.
Kavante Wright, 30, of Texarkana, is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and resisting arrest. He remains in Bi-State Detention Center on total bail of $120,000.
Texarkana Texas Police Department was dispatched to the apartment complex in the 1000 block of College Drive about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
"We found a 25-year-old woman who was suffering from a gunshot on her shoulder inside an apartment," said Shawn Vaughn, public information officer.
The woman reportedly told police Wright shot her in another apartment and that she ran to a neighbor's apartment looking for help. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury that did not appear to be life-threatening, Vaughn said.
Circumstances of the shooting were not available Monday afternoon.
While Lt. Jeremy Courtney was responding to the call, he noticed a man getting into a vehicle that had stopped on College Drive.
"(Courtney) stopped the car on St. Michael Drive and found that Wright was the passenger," Vaughn said.
Wright was taken into custody after other officers arrived at that location. He initially resisted their efforts to handcuff him but eventually complied.
As Wright was being arrested, officers reportedly saw a pistol lying on the floorboard of the car near Wright's feet, Vaughn said.
