Prep Football: Hooks earns seven superlatives on 10-3A all-district team

Walls, DeKalb’s Williams named Co-District MVPs

Hooks had its most successful season since 1992, and it was reflected in the 10-3A All-District football team selections where they earned seven superlatives.

The Hornets, the consecutive district champions and ranked fourth in the final regular season Class 3A, Division II rankings, were led by Keyshawn Walls, who shared the Co-District MVP title with DeKalb's Winky Williams. Walls accumulated 2,070 yards and 31 touchdowns on 204 attempts, averaging over 10 yards per carry, and added five catches for 92 yards and another touchdown.

Hooks sophomore quarterback Ripken Birdwell, who passed for 2,236 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only five interceptions, shared Co-Offensive MVP honors with senior receiver Boogie Johnson. Johnson recorded 848 yards and 12 touchdowns from 43 receptions.

Defensive MVP was awarded to senior linebacker Logan Baker. He concluded the season with 101 tackles, a sack, three interceptions, and a forced and recovered fumble.

Hooks center Kason Choate received the Offensive Lineman MVP, while Redwater defensive tackle Cade Pipes was named Defensive Lineman MVP.

The Offensive Newcomer of the Year was shared by Hooks junior wideout Rod Bailey and New Boston sophomore running back Ashton Rowden.

Hooks sophomore linebacker Jasper Crain was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
