ASHDOWN, Ark. -- A man who escaped from the Little River County jail is now facing an escape charge.

Travis Cain Lewis, 25, was being held on aggravated assault and other felony charges when he allegedly escaped from the jail on Aug. 11.

Lewis remains in jail and is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Dec. 12 in Ninth West Circuit Court and a jury trial Jan. 18, 2024, according to court records. He is represented by attorney Mickey Buchanan.

Sheriff Bobby Walraven said Lewis escaped through a weak spot in a fence. Steps will be taken to strengthen the barrier, Walraven said.

Lewis was apprehended in Ashdown shortly after the alleged escape. He was facing several felony charges, including failure to register as a sex offender or report an address change, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault on a family member and theft of property.

The charges date to late July. Lewis allegedly took $70 from his grandmother's purse and stole the 77-year-old woman's truck, according to an arrest affidavit.

The grandmother also allegedly had bruises on her face from an alleged assault by Lewis, the affidavit states.
