Prep Volleyball: Arkansas High upends El Dorado for first league win

EL DORADO, Ark. -- Arkansas High's volleyball program traveled east and came back home with its first Conference 5A South victory after sweeping El Dorado, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16, on Tuesday night.

After clinching the first set, the Lady Backs took advantage of several El Dorado errors down the stretch.

Holding onto a 20-16 lead, Arkansas High lost some momentum and El Dorado rallied. Laila Reynolds went down the line for a kill before Destin Lewis put away a shot at the net to close the gap to 22-20. A strong serve produced a point and a block tied the score at 22-all.

But El Dorado's serve into the net gave Arkansas High a point. A Lady Wildcat kill tied the game at 23-23 and their next serve went out of bounds. The Lady Backs won the set on a hitting error at the net.

El Dorado, which has now lost five straight, had no chance in the third set as Arkansas High built a 23-13 cushion before winning.

Macie Lee finished with 14 points and 15 assists for the Lady Backs. Kendra Jones had 16 kills and Tearnin Petit contributed with 15 assists.

Arkansas High's seventh- and eighth-graders also brought home victories against the Lady Wildcats.

The seventh-grade 'A' team won, 25-10, 25-6, with Jordyn Tyres leading the way for the Lady Backs with 10 points. Natalie Clairmont added eight points.

The 'B' team won, 25-12. Makaylee Davis had a team-high eight points and Jenna Lumpkin had seven points.

In eighth-grade action, the 'A' team defeated El Dorado, 25-3, 25-19. Addison Finley recorded 13 points and Abigail McCrary finished with 10 points.

Megan Crank helped lead the 'B' team to a 25-12 triumph.Arkansas High will return to action on Monday when it travels to Camden Fairview.
