TEXARKANA, Texas -- In celebration of the Twin Cities' sesquicentennial this year, local artists have revived and reinterpreted scenes from the past.
Organizers assigned photographs from the Texarkana Museums System archives to 12 artists, who created new pieces that respond to the original images. The result is an exhibition titled "From Their Texarkana to Our Texarkana" that opens Tuesday at the Regional Arts Center. It will be on display through Nov. 25th.
Featured artists include Marshall Chandra, Mary Cyrus, Cindy Holmes, Amanda Langley, Lauren McKinney, Rachel Miller, Kayleigh Moreland, Cynthia Stone, Darlene Taylor, Chris Thomas, Agnes Tirrito and Sydney Williams.
Next month, organizers will hold a reception and auction of the pieces. Sponsors include the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, TMS and The TXK150 Committee.
(The reception and auction are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Regional Arts Center, 321 W. Fourth St. The exhibition will be on display through Saturday, Nov. 25, and, like all of TRAHC's visual art exhibits, is free to the public. The RAC is open to the public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. School and civic group tours are available upon request.)
