TEXARKANA, Ark. -- A man guilty of killing two children and a woman in a 2023 head-on collision on Interstate was sentenced to 69 years in prison during a hearing Monday at Miller County Courthouse.

Richard Gabriel Lopez, 44, pleaded guilty Jan. 31 to three counts of negligent homicide, one count of first-degree battery and one count of second-degree battery.

The battery charges were for two women who were injured when he drove his 2015 Ford Mustang into a 2017 Kia Optima carrying five people, including two children.

During sentencing, Judge Wren Autrey of the 8th Judicial Circuit South described Lopez's actions as "heinous," leading to "carnage."

This is a developing story.
