TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks will open their 2024 softball schedule Tuesday with a home game against Carthage.
Game time is 5 p.m. at Lady Hawk Field.
The game was originally scheduled for today (Monday), but it was moved to Tuesday because of wet field conditions.
Pleasant Grove and Carthage reached the Class 4A state playoffs last year, with the Lady Hawks reaching the area round before losing to Canton, two games to none. The Hawks finished with a 19-14-1 record.
The Lady Bulldogs went 21-13-1 last season, and also were eliminated in the area round by Little Cypress-Mauriceville, two games to none.
Pleasant Grove is anxious to get on the field and play, said coach Becca Collom.
"Our scrimmage on Friday vs. Mount Vernon unfortunately was canceled. We just got our basketball kids last week, so we are still looking at our options. We are definitely excited to have everyone and to hit the ground running," Collom said.
The Hawks have only one senior this year in Hailey Allen, who "will lead our outfield in center field," Collom said.
"We have holes to plug from our previous year that we will have to work out. But this is going to be a fun group. We are optimistic in the potential. We will be young, but should still be gritty," the coach said.
Pleasant Grove will play six games Thursday through Saturday in the Carthage tournament.
