TEXARKANA, Texas -- The police department recognized Detective Warren Smith as Officer of the Quarter during a ceremony Tuesday at the department's Spring Lake Park training facility.

Smith was honored for his work on a case involving stolen pallets of Amazon products, and Texarkana, Texas, Police Chief Kevin Schutte presented Smith his plaque in an Amazon box.

Other detectives suggested the box for Smith, Schutte said.

Smith has been with TTPD for 15 years and has served in the operations division, as well as his current assignment as a forgery and fraud investigator in the Criminal Investigation Division.

In 2023, Smith was assigned a case in which nine pallets of Amazon items were mistakenly delivered to a loading dock in Oaklawn Village and left unattended. As a result, $23,000 of merchandise and 577 items were stolen.

Smith began by obtaining video footage of the thefts and trying to identify the suspects.

"He devoted countless hours of video review of the thefts, most of which occurred under the cover of darkness," Schutte said.

Because of his efforts, 10 suspects were identified and nine have been arrested. He was also able to recover 233 of the stolen items.

"What initially began as a true 'who done it' turned into a cleared case, all due to the diligence of Detective Smith," Schutte said.
