TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Capital murder defendant Nathaniel Fort is scheduled for trial this week in Miller County's 8th Judicial District. Fort, 21, is charged in the death of Aaron Bruce on Christmas 2022.

Jury selection is Monday, and testimony could start Tuesday, according to court records.

Earlier this month, a jury found Tarus Melek Walker, 25, guilty of capital murder in Bruce's death and sentenced him to life without parole in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Bruce was killed Christmas morning at an apartment complex in the 2500 block of East 24th Street.

According to evidence presented in Walker's trial, Walker went to Bruce's apartment while armed. Bruce was later found shot dead in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Walker was the former boyfriend of Bruce's girlfriend. Walker and the woman also had a child together.

Fort was reportedly with Walker at the time of the shooting and reportedly was also armed.

A video of the men approaching Bruce's door less than 30 minutes before he was found shot was obtained by law enforcement, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Fort was arrested on Dec. 27, 2022, according to court records.

Nearly four months later, in April 2023, Walker was taken into custody on East 35th Street after a brief foot chase by a joint team of Texarkana Arkansas Police Department detectives and U.S. Marshals.

Fort is represented by attorney Tabitha Branch, according to court records.
