Texarkana College enrollment increases by 6% since last spring

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texarkana College's Board of Trustees held a regular monthly meeting on Monday where attendees heard about student enrollment for the spring semester.

TC President Jason Smith shared data that indicated a 6% increase in enrollment from the previous spring semester. Smith attributed the increase to the rollout of eight-week academic courses.

"Our new eight-week course delivery model provides students with greater freedom to enroll as full-time students because they can complete faster and have fewer classes to juggle per term," Smith said. "Students are taking full advantage of the shorter, more manageable schedule to complete their coursework, which provides two start dates within a semester."

Smith said the college held several Black History Month events such as an opera concert featuring local soprano Candace Taylor, as well as guest speakers Chiara Thompson and Marie Ferdinand-Harris.
