JACKSONVILLE, Ark.—Officials say police responding to a reported vehicle theft at a central Arkansas auto dealership fatally shot a man when he drove toward officers and accelerated in a stolen car.

Jacksonville police say officers fired at the unidentified man shortly before midnight Thursday after he allegedly stole the vehicle and began driving toward the exit of the dealership about 13 miles north of Little Rock. Authorities say police performed first aid on the man until paramedics arrived.

The man was then taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
