Company says it will close compressor factory

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Danfoss announced Tuesday it's closing its manufacturing facility in Arkansas and furloughing 170 employees by the end of the year.

The company makes compressors for air-conditioning units and commercial freezers.

The company blamed "decreasing market demand for small capacity scroll technology"in announcing the closure of its facility in Arkadelphia. The plan manufactures small capacity scroll compressors, condensing units, and assembles high pressure pumps. The privately held company has more than 25,000 employees worldwide.

"We are working with our employees to provide the best possible outplacement support," Noel Ryan, president of Danfoss Commercial Compressors, said in a statement. "The decision is in no way a reflection of the efforts and commitment of our valued Arkadelphia workforce. Quite the contrary, our employees have demonstrated a tremendous work ethic and high performance."
