A woman was found dead yesterday in the Wesson area of Union County; police are investigating her death as a possible homicide, Union County Coroner Stormey Primm said.

The woman is African American and in her 20's, Primm said. Her remains will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab tomorrow for further investigation.

Initial reports of the death said the woman was pregnant when her body was found today; Primm said he could not confirm that at this time, deferring to the Crime Lab.

Primm said her death is being investigated as a possible murder because "the nature of her injuries are consistent with a homicide." He declined to detail what injuries she suffered.

The woman's remains were discovered outside in the Wesson area, which is a subdivision between Parkers Chapel, Three Creeks and Junction City.

Primm said earlier this evening that because it is an open investigation, the information being released about the woman and the circumstances of her death is limited.

"They're working hard on the investigation," he said.

Capt. Jeff Stinson, chief investigator for the Union County Sheriff's Office, could not be reached for comment.

This is a developing story. The News-Times will update as new information becomes available.
