Lady Backs fall to Lake Hamilton

TEXARKANA, Ark. It was a fight until the end.

Arkansas High fell to Lake Hamilton in four sets at Razorback Gym on Tuesday, 25-21, 25-9, 18-25, 25-9.

"They fought and they never got down," Arkansas High head coach Kaylee Treas-Dalby said. "We talked today about moving on from a bad play and regrouping. It's really what they did. They fought from the first set until the fourth set."

Both squads came out swinging at the net in the fourth set.

Arkansas High was able to keep up with Lake Hamilton's pace and long rallies.

The Lady Wolves took their largest lead of the night while Kynzee Dixon was at the serve line. Dixon accounted for eight points for Lake Hamilton at the line.

"We kept our composure," Treas-Dalby said. "Even when things weren't going our way throughout the night, we kept our composure. We've been preaching that since we started, controlling what we can control.

"If teams want to play in the net, we'll let them. They committed a few hitting errors in the third set and we didn't let the lead go."

Reonnie Strickland collected eight blocks, 10 kills and six points for AHS, while teammate Z'Niah Nelson finished at five kills with six blocks.

Seaira Watson added 15 assists, eight points and five kills for the Lady Backs.

The Lady Backs captured a lead early in the third set, 10-4, and scored five more points unanswered before relinquishing a point to the Wolves.

Lake Hamilton had no answer for the Lady Backs at the net in the third set.

The Lady Backs forced a Lake Hamilton hitting error to end the set.

Lake Hamilton continued their hot-streak into the second set.

The Wolves took a 11-4 lead with Anna Marie Tice at the service line. Tice accounted for six serve points when she was at the line.

Arkansas High made consecutive hitting errors, which led to the Wolves outburst of points midway through the second period.

The score was 21-9, before Daylee Aitken scored four points in-a-row, to take the set.

"We really preach doing the little things right," Treas-Dalby said. "When things aren't going right, we have to delete that and build. We're not going to dwell on the last shanked ball or a missed hit.

"We must always look forward, we can't look behind us. We can't dwell on anything because if we do, it's just going to fester and we're going to be stuck in the mud."

Arkansas High held the Wolves without any points to start the match.

Lake Hamilton regrouped after trailing, 6-2, before stopping play.

The Wolves clawed back, behind the net play of Audri Winfrey, scoring nine kills during the set.

Lake Hamilton eventually fought off the late push by Arkansas High, taking he set by four points.
