Arkansas man gets 60 years in airman's fatal shooting

LITTLE ROCK - A 19-year-old North Little Rock man was sentenced to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty in the killing of an airman who tried to stop him from robbing a gas station.

Drequan Lamont Robinson pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in the March 2019 fatal shooting of Senior Airman Shawn Arnold McKeough Jr., the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. He must serve at least 70% of his sentence - 42 years, including time served - before he'd be eligible for parole.

Security footage from the Valero Big Red convenience store in North Little Rock showed that McKeough lunged at Robinson's accomplice, Darrius Bernard Stewart, before Robinson turned and shot McKeough in the face.

Stewart, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in December 2019 in exchange for a 30-year sentence. He must serve at least 21 years behind bars before he can be released.

Two accomplices who stayed in the car that night pleaded guilty to lesser charges and were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.

McKeough, who was originally from Westbrook, Maine, was stationed in Arkansas and had planned to stay in the state once his service was completed. His previous Air Force postings included Germany, Kuwait and South Korea.
