COVID closes New Boston City Hall offices to public | 'Several cases with city employees'

NEW BOSTON, Texas - The City of New Boston, Texas, has closed its offices to the public because of a high number of positive COVID-19 cases among city employees.

"We did close," City Administrator Elizabeth Lea said. "We have several cases with city employees, and we're short personnel because of it. So that's why we're doing this until we can get some people back to work."

According to a statement posted on the city's Facebook page, only individuals with a scheduled appointment will be allowed in the lobby for now.

Lea said she hopes the city can get employees back in the office in a couple of weeks.

"We're tracking everything through the drop boxes," she said. "We have two places here that they can do it, or they can go online and pay their bills. They also can call and make an appointment and come in if they need to talk to someone. But we won't have but one person in at a time."

Lea declined to disclose how many COVID cases the City Hall is currently dealing with.

"I'd rather not do that, but we have several," she said.

Appointments will be made based on urgent need only by calling 903-628-5596. Payments can be put in the night drop box or paid online by calling 1-855-782-2061.
