Two-year relationship seems more off than on
Dear Abby: I have been on and off with a man for two years. In all this time, he has never spent a holiday or Valentine's Day with me, or introduced me to his family or friends. Don't answer these phone scams
Dear Heloise: Have you received a telephone call where the caller started out with: "I'm a Medicare adviser on a recorded line. Can you hear me?" DO NOT ANSWER! Hang up immediately. This is nothing but a trick to get you to say "yes," and that one word can get you into a lot of trouble. They use it to buy goods and services that you won't receive but will be billed for anyway. Always be alert for scam artists who want to take unfair advantage of you. — Lowell M., Boston

Talk to your plants, they'll talk back
The U.K.'s Royal Horticultural Society once conducted an experiment on how talking to plants affected their growth. Charles Darwin's great granddaughter — one of 10 plant talkers who were recorded and then piped in one-to-a-tomato-plant — saw her veggie grow 2 inches more than the plants who were listening to a male voice. The other female plant-talkers saw 1 inch more growth than the men's did. But even the guys saw more plant growth than on tomatoes left in silence.

Let's just all be friends? Or not
Q. I moved out of state after my divorce. My ex and I had our differences, but made a pact to not air them in front of the kids even though they were all well into adulthood by the time we got a divorce. For years, when I came into town, we often had dinner together with our adult children and their significant others. Then he started dating a woman who forbid him from attending the occasional dinner when I came into town. So, I just had dinner with the kids and left it at that. The kids are angry. They think his girlfriend should butt out and let him do what he wants. I have no opinion on the subject. Just wondering what's good ex-etiquette?
