Show us your 'purse-onality'

HER Magazine, a monthly publication of the Texarkana Gazette, wants to know all about your favorite handbag. Why you love it, how you use it, the features that make it special, and even what kind of stuff you carry around in it.

Is it about beauty? Utility? Both? Or is it something beyond the obvious?

This is not earth-shattering research, but it should be fun-like sharing a favorite recipe or explaining the enduring allure of high heel shoes you know will kill your feet just by looking at them.

We're calling this little audience-participation tango: My Favorite Purse and Why I Love It So.

Participating is as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Take a photo of your favorite bag on a white or contrasting background. (Think close-up, like a portrait; subject fills the frame with a little space around the edges.)

2. Email the photo, along with a brief description (100-200 word range) about why you love this particular bag to [email protected] by April 15. Please include the handbag's designer/brand, how long you've owned it, and any other details that will explain why you hold it is such high esteem.

3. Watch for the May issue of HER Magazine and check the Texarkana Gazette and its other online and social media platforms for related content.

We can't promise we can get all of what you send in (since we don't know how many we are going to get), but we are going to try. If nothing else, this is your chance to finally and fully explain yourself to a captivated audience. You can clip and put aside some of the best purses and the tributes to them-including yours-and then some day, when your significant other (or your child) is looking blankly at your purse and its contents and doing the head-scratching bit, you will be prepared to strike them dumb with you retort.

Doesn't that make it worth a little of your time and a cell phone photo?

Shortly, the HER magazine staff will unveil an online component in its purse-uit of knowledge and understanding, and reveal a prize for the best "purse-love letter" submitted.

Nothing complicated here. Don't purse your lips or furrow that brow. This is going to be fun. Pick up your purse and just go with it.
