Magic Springs Theme & Water Park, Hot Springs, Ark., has an array of special events for the coming season, including Mermaid Mondays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. by the Wave Pool; Dive-In Movie today; and Cooler Sundays, where guests can bring a cooler packed with food and drink into the park, minus alcoholic beverages or glass. A virtual "NOT The-Watermelon-Festival-Concert" concert is Saturday, Aug. 15, live from Hempstead Hall Amphitheater. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the "Watermelon Idol" competition, with the winner performing their act. Entry is limited to 20 acts, first come, first served, with cash prizes for first, second and third place. No previous winners are allowed to enter. Only performers are allowed on the campus, with performers under 18 allowed one parent/guardian to accompany them, and masks must be worn when not performing. South Down Main performs at 7 p.m. During the concert, the Watermelon Masked Singer will be unmasked. All performances will be livestreamed on HempsteadHall.com. Museums & History

Museum of the Red River, Idabel, Okla., has "Fun with Mosaics," a free drop-in event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, in which visitors can create their own mosaics; four drawing classes by Dr. Gleny Beach are held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 15 through Sept. 5. The class fee of $100 includes supplies, space is limited to 15, first come, first served; and "Fun with Aboriginal Dot Art," a free drop-in event, takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.

Arts & Ends

Texarkana College has announced music classes in the Flex Campus format, combining face-to-face and online course delivery. The fall semester begins Wednesday, Aug. 19, with music merit funds available to some students. Students and employees who come to campus are required to enter through designated health screening stations, wear a face covering and follow social distancing protocols.

The Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce board has canceled the 44th annual Hope Watermelon Festival.

 

Party with Picassos "Roaring '20s Style" and accompanying events have been canceled for 2020. The next Picassos event is scheduled for March 27, 2021.

 

Friends of the (Texarkana) Library bookstore remains closed until further notice.

 

Border Lows Camping Club has canceled all group campouts until further notice.
