Local Homebuilders Association sponsors home show

Texarkana Homebuilders Association is planning a bigger and better home show starting with free admission.

"It is the first year we are doing free admission, which is a big thing," said Chase Fairless, the association's executive officer.

The show is back at the Four States Fairgrounds for the second year. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 14 and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 15.

This year's Home Show is the beginning of several plans to retool the longtime organization to better serve the community and its members, Fairless said.

"I am new to the position, I got it in October. They (HBA) were desiring change as a whole and the Home Show first thing to hit the table. We have a lot of new vendors signed up and lots of people we haven't had before," Fairless said.

The onslaught of social media sites like Pinterest and home improvement shows make this month's local Home Show a real time, real place to create your own unique style story.

"We want you to be out and seeing it in public instead of just sitting in bed looking at your iPad," Fairless said.

In addition to better serving home show attendees, Fairless also hopes that the organization will be more to its members.

"We want the HBA to go back to what it should be - great networking and we want our local people to benefit from it," he said.

The organization currently has about 36 members, Fairless said.

"That is not a very positive note. My goal with the Home Show and as soon it is over is to make people understand the value of the organization and being involved. It's not about calling once a year and collecting dues from our members."

With free admission to the Home Show, be part of the organization's renovation and increased outreach. It makes Texarkana a better place to call home.
