ORLANDO, Fla. - Walt Disney World will loosen up its no-costumes rule for Magic Kingdom visitors as we move toward the Halloween season.
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 31, all guests - yes, even grown-ups - can wear their "funniest, Disney-ist, most creative costumes" to the theme park during regular opening hours, according to a post on the official Disney Parks Blog.
Full-blown costume masks will be allowed only for children younger than 14 years old. And all guests will still be required to wear face coverings as they have at Disney World since the resort reopened in mid-July after its coronavirus shutdown.
The new costume exception is part of Disney's fall celebration, which took a hit when all evenings of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, an after-hours, extra-ticket event, were canceled for 2020. Many Not-So-Scary participants came out in their spooky finery.
Disney World's website lists several restrictions about costumes in general that still will apply, including a ban on "excessively torn clothing" and items with "obscene language or graphics." Also prohibited: full-length capes.
The company is preparing seasonal food treats, including a pumpkin-spiced waffle sundae and the Poor Unfortunate Souls float, merchandise (candy-swirl Minnie Mouse headband and more) and fresh PhotoPass opportunities.
