TEXARKANA, Texas - The Sportsplex will get in on the wonders of weddings with its Plex Bridal Fair held 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 18.
Free to the public with a vendor booth fee of $50, the Plex Bridal Fair may not be a typical gym event, but Ryan Williams at The Sportsplex by Healthcare Express says they've started hosting events, too, such as a chili cook-off a couple of months ago.
This event arrives just as wedding season starts, and a variety of wedding-related vendors are sure to attend.
"Everything from florists to venues to caterers. We want to have everybody who's involved in the wedding industry to be here. Deejays - we don't care. We want people to be here. We know the wedding industry was a mess last year, so we just kind of wanted to do something to help local businesses out and also help brides plan their special day," said Williams, who serves as the "Minister of Magic" at Sportsplex.
In their Hangar space, Sportsplex has the room to hold an event like this and the team to put it all together, he explained.
"We like hosting things that are non-gym related just because we have the space for it, and we have a really good energy about the Sportsplex so we just like for people to come and fill it," Williams said, noting they aim to hold this event annually if the bridal fair goes well.
The event A Saturday Morning in 1971 that The Sportsplex was going to hold this Saturday afternoon in conjunction with the Texarkana Museums System and Discovery Place Interactive Museum has been postponed. It may be rescheduled for the summer.
Expect The Sportsplex to open its pool in May, and they're also promoting their XLR8 program with batting cages and after-school athletics programs.
"We didn't get to have a pool season last year, so we're pretty excited about it," said Williams.
While the Plex Bridal Fair is free, The Sportsplex asks that people register online at the event page on Facebook so they can gauge how many will attend, Williams said. The Eventbrite page for vendor sign up is also on their Facebook page.
Expect raffle prizes, 50-50 giveaways and door prizes. They're encouraging vendors to bring prizes for giveaways, too.
"We're expecting it to be a lot of fun," Williams said.
