TEXARKANA, Texas - Tattoo shop Body of Art will host another rendition of its paint and sip fundraisers this Tuesday to help animals who are homeless.

Partnering with ColorHype TXK, Body of Art will raise funds for DeNoon Animal Rescue with a Pin Up Paint and Sip starting at 6 p.m. Half of the catered event's profits will be used for a donation to the group, which helps homeless critters find a home.

Participants will enjoy food, drinks, socializing and painting a pin-up portrait at the 3003 Richmond Road shop, which is co-owned by Kara May and a new partner to the business, Jessica Dillard.

"We try to do it once a month, and of course the tickets are usually pretty limited. We do about 20," May said. "I cook all day and we have a bar. It's kind of a getaway for adults, I guess."

The ColorHype profits are matched by Body of Art, and then they donate it to a charity agreed upon in advance. The animal rescue group that will benefit this time is based in Foreman, Arkansas.

"They rescue dogs, cats, goats, pigs. I'm sure if somebody had a lizard, they would rescue it," May said. DeNoon Animal Rescue also makes regular trips to Michigan with a van full of puppies and dogs to find new homes for them, she explained.

Why pin-ups? "We kind of wanted it to be a little tattoo related, and of course Shea's (Colorhype TXX owner Shea Phillips) an amazing artist and so she came up with something that's going to be easy for everybody to do," May said. They've already done pours and inks, so they went in a different direction with a pin-up painting this time.

May says the food and drinks are worth the price of admission alone, and participants get to take some art home. Expect tasty food that fits the occasion and vibe.

Dillard joined as co-owner for the tattoo shop a couple of months ago, May said. Working on an event like this is something they both believe in doing, plus it gives them a chance to enjoy time with their clients and get to know them a bit better.

"We just wanted to make sure we're doing something to give back. It's something that me and Jessica really like doing," May said.
