L-E Athletics to hold first golf scramble in two years

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Liberty-Eylau School District Athletics Department will hold its annual Alumni Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 19, after a two-year hiatus.

The fundraiser benefiting L-E athletics will include a four-man scramble at the Texarkana Golf Ranch with breakfast and lunch provided.

"It has been an annual thing, but the last two years it did not happen (due to COVID). So, we're starting it back," L-E Athletic Director Dewaski Davis said.

The cost will be $100 per person and $400 per team. Sponsorships available include the $500 Leopard Pride Sponsorship, $250 Eylau Sponsorship and the $100 Hole Sponsorship.

First place receives four coaches pullovers, while second place gets sideline passes to one home game and third place gets L-E hats.

The following contests will also take place:

- Putting contest for a 55-inch television

- Punt/Pass/Kick - tee off where it stops rolling

- String for sale - $1 per foot up to 20'

- Long Drive Contest

- Closest to the Pin

- Four Yellow Tee shots, $20 per team

- Three Mulligans, $20 per team

Davis said the primary use for the funds received would be for the high school football team's fieldhouse.

"We want to renovate our fieldhouse for the football team and do some nice things with it," Davis said. "So, we're trying to raise some money to achieve that goal."

Davis said he expects a good turnout, as the community and alumni are pumped to get back to the annual tradition.

"A lot of people are really excited about getting it back going," he said. "We had one in baseball in the fall, and the football one has been really successful. So, we're just trying to get back for the alumni and anyone else who wants to come back and play, and help us out a bit."

Registration will start at 7:15 a.m. on July 19, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., a lunch at noon and an auction at 1 p.m.
