TEXARKANA - This year's Memorial Day weekend will include three local services, one on Memorial Day Eve, May 30, and two on Memorial Day proper, May 31.
The first service, hosted by both the Texarkana Area Veterans Council and Memorial Gardens Cemetery will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at Memorial Gardens on U.S. Highway 67 East, just past the Texarkana Regional Airport.
Both the second and third services will be on Monday, May 31, Memorial Day, with the first one starting at about 11:45 a.m., at the Korea-Vietnam Memorial close to the West Seventh Street and North State Line Avenue intersection near downtown Texarkana. This ceremony will be hosted the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 278. Those attending may want to bring lawn chairs
The final service, hosted by Texarkana Funeral Home, will be at 2 p.m., that same day, at Hillcrest Cemetery on U.S. Highway 67 West.
There will also be a National Moment of Remembrance observed at 3 p.m. local time, across America on Memorial Day. All are encouraged to take a moment to remember all the military men and women who gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms and liberties we have.
