Helping Out | Shelter need donations, volunteers for Thanksgiving meal

Thanksgiving will soon be upon us and, for most of us at least, that means turkey and all the trimmings shared with family and friends in a warm home.

But there are others right here in Texarkana who don't have a warm home. They may not even have family. And their prospects for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner depend of the generosity of others.

Each year the Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter provides holiday dinner for our area's homeless and needy.

Last year they served about 400 meals for Thanksgiving. This year they expect the need to be about 500.

But they need your help.

The shelter is asking the public for donations of food and beverages as well as plates, paper towels, cups and cutlery.

And there is a need for volunteers to come and help with the meal.

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude. And a time to help others in appreciation for blessings received.

We can think of no better way to do that than to help bring holiday joy to those in need.
