Curfew | Twin Cities take steps to help stop spread of virus

If you haven't been taking the recommendation to stay home and distance yourself from contact with others too serious so far, that's about to change.

In the effort to stem the spread of COVID-19, the mayors of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Texarkana, Texas, have instituted a curfew for all residents and ordered some businesses to close

The curfew is from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. There are exceptions for those going to and from work, the hospital or a pharmacy. The curfew takes effect today.

Additionally, the mayors ordered nail salons, hair salons, barber shops, massage therapy studios and tattoo parlors to temporarily close their doors by 11:59 pm. tonight.

No word on how long the curfew or closures will last. But we expect they will remain in place until health officials say they can safely be lifted.

Arkansas-side Mayor Bob Bruggeman said the mandatory curfew and closures were necessary because too many residents were not following the voluntary guidelines.

Some no doubt will balk at these new restrictions - likely the very folks whose actions brought them on. All we can say is the faster everybody starts following the guidelines, the faster things will get back to normal.
