In the Mail? | Americans want to know when they will get their stimulus checks

Now that Congress has passed the COVID-19 relief package, many Americans have one thought on their minds: When will I get my check?

The stimulus plan includes a one-time rebate of $1,200 for each adult and $500 for each child. If you are an individual making more than $75,000 a year in adjusted gross income or a couple making $150,000, the amount goes down $5 for every $100 earned above the limits. The $500 per child isn't subject to income limits.

Some won't get a check at all. Singles without kids making above $99,000 and childless couples who make more than $198,000 won't get anything.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents with a green card are eligible. Non-citizens without a green card are not.

Since the payment will be based on 2019 tax returns (2018 for those who have yet to file), the first folks to see their cash will be those who opted for direct deposit of their tax refunds. Their stimulus payment will go straight to their bank account electronically.

It will take longer if the U.S. Treasury has to physically prepare and send you a check through the Postal Service.

Right now it looks like it will take at least two to three weeks - maybe more - before the money starts flowing.

So be patient.
