IN OUR VIEW | Census Event: Cities offer help today in completing form

We've written about the importance of the 2020 U.S. Census in this space several times. But still many local residents haven't taken the time to fill out their forms.

So we're going to give it one more try. And we're going to show you just how easy it can be to get the form filled out and sent today.

The population count every decade determines how many members each state will have in the House of Representatives. And how many votes each will have in the Electoral College. Every decade, some states gain, other lose. The census also determines where billions in federal funds are allocated. Billions that help pay for a variety of essential programs and services as well as infrastructure construction and maintenance.

Those funds flow down to the local level - our level

The two Texarkanas are hosting a "Respond to the Census" event today at multiple locations around town.

You can walk-thru or drive-thru, your choice.

There will be certified census taker at each location, as well as member of the Twin Cities' Complete Count Committee to help filling out the form or to answer any questions. Hours are 9 a.m. until 1 a.m.

If you would prefer to walk-thru, you can go to Vero's at 2106 New Boston Road or in front of Beall's at Central Mall.

Drive-thru is offered at Liberty-Eylau High School, 2905 Leopard Drive, and Texarkana, Arkansas, High School, 1500 Jefferson Ave.

The census is important to your nation, state, county and city. It's important to you and your family. And now is the time to get it done.
