IN OUR VIEW | Flying High: New terminal a key to area's future economic development

Saturday saw the kick-off of a big new development for the Texarkana area.

A groundbreaking ceremony for Texarkana Regional Airport's new terminal was held at noon, drawing a crowd to cheer on the sign of economic progress.

The current terminal dates from the 1960s. The new facility will feature a number of impressive upgrades that will hopefully lead to more flights and more passenger traffic.

That can only be good for the Twin Cities and the area.

Construction on the first two phases of the project are expected to be finished by year's end. The whole new terminal should be up and running by fall of 2024.

When finished, expanded facilities will feature updated baggage handling, concessions and enclosed passenger walkways from the terminal directly to aircraft doors.

Our airport is vital to current business operations. These upgrades are key to future economic development. We should all be happy to see things moving in the right direction at Texarkana Regional Airport.
